Grass on a car? Yes, we’ve done that. And a few other crazy projects too. So why would anyone want grass on a car? This project was all for Bloom 2008 – as you’ll read here.
Over the years, we’ve been involved in quite a few other unusual projects – a bit quirky and ‘off the wall’, but a lot of fun too. Here are just a few of them!
In 2008 we were trying to promote Summerhill Lawns by having something unique on our stands. We decided to try and grow grass on a car and if it proved successful we would bring it to Bloom Garden Show in the Phoenix Park.
We purchased a Ford Ka car and started preparing to grow grass on the car. After a hectic 5 weeks of tender loving care treatment we successfully had the car ready for its journey to the Phoenix Park.
The Bloom show was a 5 day event and the heat was cruel on the grass car inside in a tent so it needed a great deal of attention to get the car to the last day. The car’s bonnet was so well touched and patted that the grass had wore down on it. Children were amazed by it. We even managed to get booked for no Tax and Insurance!
Upon maturing the car had to be treated as a normal lawn which included cutting the grass, watering and fertilising to keep it looking so well. As you can imagine we turned a lot of heads trying to steer the car into position at the show.
In 2006 we temporarialy fitted a new lawn to the front grounds of College Green Bank in Dublin city centre for an promotional event that included Dublin GAA player Jason Sherlock and some Models.
